Holding a special place in the history of the town, re-designated as Ipswich Minster it now holds a central place in its future. Rooted prayer and worship, nurtured by the english choral tradition, and committed to service of the community, we embrace a bold vision of a renewed church, inspired to share God’s love through welcome, worship, faith, and action. We are a welcoming, inclusive, and open church offering peace and sanctuary in the heart of Ipswich. Inspired by the Christian Gospel we are deeply committed to loving and serving our community, inspiring renewal and transformation, and enabling people to flourish through prayer and positive action, ultimately discovering their true potential, that is, who God has called them to be. At Ipswich Minster, we dream of being a place where everyone can experience the warmth and love of God. Our goal is to inspire and lead the renewal of Christian life not only in our parish but throughout Ipswich, east Suffolk, and beyond. Together, we strive to create a flourishing community where people can grow and become who God calls them to be. Christopher Borrett was an academic and choral scholar at New College, Oxford from 2005-2008. At university he performed solos with New College’s world-renowned choir on live broadcasts, recordings and in concert. Most notably he performed solos in a programme of Couperin and Purcell at the York Early Music Festival, and a performance of Bach’s St John Passion in New College Chapel. After university he was selected to be a member of the Monteverdi Choir Apprentice Scheme under Sir John Eliot Gardiner. Having completed his year-long apprenticeship, Christopher sings with the ensemble regularly performing a wide range of repertoire ranging from Bizet’s Carmen and Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms to madrigals by Monteverdi and part-songs by Brahms. As a member of the Monteverdi choir he has taken small solo and consort roles such as on the group’s most recent recording of the Bach Motets, a concert performance of Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle and the role of Samuel in Purcell’s Saul and the Witch of Endor. Christopher also sings with other ensembles such as the Marian Consort, the Barabant Ensemble, Stile Antico, Ludus Baroque and the Dunedin Consort. Об альбоме (сборнике)The release of Eternal Source of Light Divine marks a special time in the history of Ipswich Minster. The church and choir have enjoyed many milestones in recent months. From Ed Sheeran visiting and starring alongside Griff Rhys Jones, David Baddiel and Gavin and Stacey’s Ruth Jones at the Regent, to celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Girl Choristers by singing in St Paul’s Cathedral and performing with Chapel Royal of Hampton Court Palace in Aldeburgh, the town’s minster choir continues to receive national acclaim.The choir, trained and conducted by Christopher Borrett, Ipswich Minster’s Director of Music, is built around the talents of local young people aged 8-18, all recruited from over 15 schools in Ipswich and East Suffolk. And this year they have come together to record and create a new album including many famous choral works, such as Handel’s stunning Eternal Source of Light Divine (including his famous Hallelujah chorus). In the album, the choir is accompanied by an orchestra comprised of local musicians from across Suffolk. The Director of Music of Ipswich Minster, Christopher Borrett, said: “The programme of this recording has been chosen to encapsulate not only the musical exploits and talents of the choir – all the soloists are current or former choristers - but also Ipswich Minster’s mission and ministry. We wish to engage with others with creativity, compassion and joy.” The Vicar of Ipswich Minster, The Revd Tom Mumford, said: “A core strand of mission of service to Ipswich and Suffolk is through our support of the arts, and particularly music education for young people. The Minster is determined to continue its music outreach in schools, not least in the most underprivileged areas of our town and county. We believe in the power of music to unite, inspire, and enable all, both singers and audiences, to flourish. I am so proud of what, particularly our young people have achieved in this album. Rave reviews will follow!” Ipswich Minster, including their choir, are set to broadcast live on BBC Radio 4 on Sunday 18 May for the flagship religious programme Sunday Worship. This will be another opportunity to celebrate Ipswich on the national stage.
